Since independence, Bangladesh had been struggling to reform its economy and social infrastructure amid several political, social and environmental adverse incidences and in these circumstances, rural people especially hardcore poor and people living in geographically challenging areas had been the most affected while they did not have access to basic needs to survive with minimum living standards.
Chattogram had been one of the most poverty-stricken Districts of the country while people of this region were deprived of basic healthcare facilities, education support, livelihood opportunities and other social security services. Considering the distress of the people, Monowara Begum, with some kind-hearted and dedicated volunteer personnel, founded Prottyashi in 1983 in a remote village (Akubdondi) under Popadia union in Boalkhali Upazila of the Chattogram District and started its operation through implementing a small-scale family planning program focusing on maternal and child health with the funding of Ministry of Planning, GoB.
Since establishment, the organization has been working for the development of the underprivileged people of the country through providing livelihood, education, healthcare, WASH, nutrition, food security, capacity building, financial inclusion etc. services in both development and humanitarian response in partnership with several national and international development agencies including Government of Bangladesh (GoB) and has expanded its services to the 10 Districts in Bangladesh reaching more than 5 million of direct beneficiaries with the programs and projects in livelihood, women empowerment, health, nutrition, food security, education, adolescent and youth development, migration, protection, financial inclusion, agriculture and livestock and aquaculture sector.
With such efforts, the organization has been aiming to contribute to achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by the GoB. Prottyashi has been implementing projects and programs in improving quality of underprivileged people through engaging government and civil societies to make them sustainable and create a significant impact on the lives of the targeted people.
Improve the quality of life of our target beneficiaries and promote sustainable development.
Empowered, self-reliant communities in a healthy environment
