The humanitarian crisis caused by the settlement of the Rohingya community from Myanmar in Cox's Bazar district is presently a major problem in Bangladesh, affecting practically all socioeconomic sectors in the region, including the environment. The project is working to provide opportunities for the host community people in different Upazilas of Cox's Bazar district, such as Cox's Bazar Sadar, Ramu, Ukhiya, and Teknaf, to improve their resilience to the consequences of natural disasters as preventive support for engaging them with various livelihood support packages in the form of skill development training and input/in-kind support. The project targeted enhanced community risk management for a sustainable response to climatic change hazards, resilience-building, diversified livelihoods, and agricultural production of Cox’s Bazar host communities.
Under this project, a total of 905 beneficiaries have received skill development training on enterprise development and employment generation on selected 06 trades during the project implementation period. Alongside, these beneficiaries have received (5-days) business development training to enhance market linkage support through creating opportunities to exhibit their products for a wider range of customers. Furthermore, the beneficiaries have received (2-days) disaster risk reduction (DRR) training so that they can have knowledge of the potential disasters and approaches to develop their businesses reducing the potentiality of risks. Thus, the project will transfer risk transfer mechanisms through sensitizing the beneficiaries on business management, risk reduction, and mitigation in the form of capacity development training. The project team organized 12 product fairs at the Upazila level (Ramu, Ukhiya, and Teknaf) one big fair was arranged collaboratively with the Food Security sector and Cox’s Bazar chamber of commerce and Industry (CCCI), 2 shops have been established at Cox’s Bazar (Shugondha Point & Laboni Point) for market linkage and one existing e-commerce site www.grassrootsbd.org has been developed as an online market place for engaging our beneficiaries.
