Strengthened and Informative Migration Systems Project

Soon after the birth of independent Bangladesh, Bangladesh manpower has been started to be deployed in the international labor migration process. Though international migration and the remittances sent by the Bangladeshi labor migrants have played a critical role in the breakthrough happened in the economic change of Bangladesh, the lack of proper governance, management of information flow, malpractices and deception has been prevailing vigorously in the entire process of labor migration for ages. The research studies have been continuously highlighting the achievements and challenges that migration sector faces. Being a voluntary organization for social development, Prottyashi looks for the social gaps to find out that needs attention and also incessantly looks for the opportunities to grip. In this attempt towards new interventions, Prottyashi has stepped forward to the issue of migration. It has been implementing ‘Strengthened and Informative Migration Systems’ (SIMS) project in 8 sub-districts (Upazila) of Chattogram district including Anwara, Patiya, Chandanaish, Boalkhali, Hathazari, Raozan, Rangunia and Fatikchari with the funding of Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and technical support of Helvetas Bangladesh. It has been expecting to cover 351, 996 direct beneficiaries by raising awareness through courtyard meetings, tea stall sessions, pre-employment orientation training for aspirant migrants, video show, IPT show, formation of migration forums etc and increasing access to justice through providing due support to the victims of deception, fraudulence or any other categories of  cases of migrant workers and also providing effective remittance management skills to left behind family members of the migrants  through providing training on financial literacy and entrepreneurship. Besides, the project has engaged a number of indirect beneficiaries who are the GO and NGO stakeholders involved in the management of migration systems at district and Upazila level including BMET, DEMO, WEWB, TTC, BKTTC, UDC etc through capacitating them to contribute more effectively from their respective parts which will eventually foster safe migration and minimizes challenges related to migration. Starting its journey in January 2021, it has already been able to reach a significant number of beneficiaries through courtyard meetings, tea stall meetings, PEO trainings, informal meetings of migration forum.
