Livelihood Improvement for Everyone

Under “ Livelihood Improvement For Everyone (LIFE)” project being funded by Japan Government and technically supported by IOM, 600 people from both Rohingya and host community in Ukhiya and Teknaf Upazila under Cox’s Bazar District have been provided with skill development and start-up support to develop enterprise and generate employment with market linkage support on commercial organic vegetable gardening, plantation of medicinal plants, nurseries on medicinal plants and vegetables, kuchia culture and nursery development, hand stitching, sewing, dyeing, screen and block printing, hand embroidery, machine embroidery, handicraft, leather craft, herbal product, goat rearing and country poultry farming with a budget of 45,425,728 BDT. For accomplishing the interventions, the project has selected 500 beneficiaries from Hnila and Sabrang Unions under Teknaf Upazila, 23 beneficiaries from Rajapalong, Ratnapalong and Palongkhali union under Ukhiya Upazila and 77 beneficiaries from camp 9, 8W and 8E. The project has been maintaining the production activities of the beneficiaries through a “Training and Production Center” constructed in Hnila union under Teknaf upazila. To help the beneficiaries develop their own business, all of them have been provided with business development training. To ensure sustainability of the project interventions, the project has developed 20 Community Based Organizations (CBOs) including the beneficiaries on different trades which have been maintaining the production activities of the beneficiaries. To manage all the CBOs at the community level, a Community Steering Committee (CSC) has been formed under the training center which have been overseeing the management and marketing of the products of the beneficiaries. 20 CBOs have been formalized through accomplishing trade license for each of the CBOs. Under the CBOs, all the beneficiaries of the project are currently engaged in production and income generation initiatives.
