Prottyashi has implemented the Engaging Host Community People into Income Generating Activities (IGAs) project in partnership with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) from 1st January 2020-31st August 2021under the Safe Plus program to improve the livelihood of the vulnerable host community households in Ukhiya and Teknaf affected by the sudden influx of Rohingya population from Myanmar. Under the project, Prottyashi has provided technical training and start-up support to 749 host community people to engage into income generating activities through enterprise development and employment generation interventions in handicraft, catering service, fancy prayer cap making, sewing, dyeing, hand stitching and wall mat making, screen and block printing and hand embroidery with the budget of 25,354,396 BDT during the first phase (Jan 2020-Dec 2020) and 21,200,012 during the 2nd phase (Jan 2021-Jun 2021). All the 749 beneficiaries have been provided with an unconditional cash grant of 9000 BDT each to prevent the shock of COVID-19 pandemic at the beginning of the pandemic. These people have been provided with market linkage support through a third party to ensure their income generation. Beneficiaries of the project have been currently producing products in their enterprises against the work orders being received from the buyers. Beneficiaries have been paid with cash/wage for accomplishing the work orders which have been directly helping them to increase their household income. The project has developed online platform “Grassroots Cox’s Bazar” through which products of the beneficiaries are being marketed and an automated customer-producer linkage have been established in the meantime.
Prottyashi as a non-governmental organization started its journey in 1983 and since then it has completed a journey of 39 years with an experience of working in various sectors.
